A couple of months ago, I had the privilege of speaking to our high school ministry as a part of their series on prayer. I really enjoyed speaking on this topic, and wanted to share my thoughts with you here as well. I love how the student team is equipping students to make their faith their own and encouraging them to grow in their faith.

new year, new word

This past Sunday at church, the pastor who was speaking interviewed an older member of the church, and asked her what her New Year traditions were. She shared that she spends time alone with God and asks for a word for her to focus on for the year, and keeps that word in the forefront of her mind for the next 12 months. I love this idea of choosing something to focus on for the year, and felt very convicted over the last month to focus on the word: consistency.

and if not

i remember coming across a girl’s instagram bio, and she had written a phrase that i had heard many times: “and if not, He is still good.” what was different about her bio was that she included a reference to daniel 3:18. honestly, i had heard that phrase before but never really investigated if it was in scripture or if it was just one of those things christians say. immediately, i googled it, and so many articles popped up about this saying and the scripture it references. when i investigated deeper into this passage, i found the message of this phrase much different, but has been much more powerful in my life.

when the Gospel isn’t such good news

this is the new mission statement our church has recently adopted, and over the past few weeks our pastor has been going through a sermon series explaining the heart behind this direction for our church body. last week, he talked about the gospel, and how many people in our society no longer view the gospel as good news due to the way christians have presented it to them. this struck a chord with me, because this is one of the main reasons i have struggled with my faith, especially over the last few years.
