The 90’s are back y’all, and I’m somewhat here for it 😂 I’m loving the high waisted pants and shorts, overalls, and most of all- scrunchies! (Grandpa shoes and crop tops are not high on my list of trends, but I love how they look on other people!) My hair has been something I’ve always fought with because of how thin it is. It constantly looks greasy unless I wash it every day or am very strategic with my dry shampoo, won’t hold a curl for anything unless it’s crunchy with hair spray, and leaves bald spots when I pull my hair back. I’ve struggled to be creative with my hair while embracing the way it’s made and loving it. For a while I had hair extensions, and I loved how easy it made doing my hair and the various styles I could do with it. But after a while, I started to feel like it wasn’t me, so I took them out.
BUT! This summer, thanks to a local PNW blogger I follow, Bre Sheppard, I have found the perfect hair accessory- scrunchies! She recommended these velvet scrunchies, which I’ve found work best with my thin hair because it holds my hair in place better than other fabrics. If you want to see the tutorial for this look, go check out her “FUN BUN” highlight on her Instagram! She explains it really well, and it’s been the easiest way for me to do my hair so far this summer.
Recently, a local business owner, Sally reached out to me and asked if I would check out her Etsy shop, Sal’s Scrunchies. She hand makes scrunchies out of fabric, and I thought it would be worth a try to see how they compared. I ordered the regular size white floral scrunchie and a regular size red and white gingham scrunchie with a bow, which I wore for my half marathon that I ran on 4th of July. These work great when I’m putting all of my hair up in a bun or ponytail, but don’t work as well for the half up hair do. She also offers mini sizes in her scrunchies, which I’m going to try next month when my spending money resets 😉. If you use the code LAURA20, you can get 20% off your order!
Overall, I’ve enjoyed playing around with this new/old accessory trend this summer. How do you style your scrunchies? Let me know in the comments, and send me in the direction of your favorite scrunchies!
