4 of my Favorite Parts of our Wedding Day

Wow, I can't believe it's been 2 years since our wedding day! So much planning went into this day, and we got spend it with the people we loved. We also had amazing vendors and venues, and I would love to share a small part of our day with you. There were so many favorite parts of the day, the biggest one being the people we got to spend it with. We had friends and family travel from near and far to celebrate, and we are still so thankful for the support system we have. Today I want to share 4 aspects of our day that stand out as being special from November 12, 2016- enjoy!

1. Wearing my mom's dress

When I was 19, my mom pulled her dress out of storage, and I tried it on with no pressure or idea of when I would be getting married. The original dress was very - um - stylish for its' time. It had huge poofy sleeves, strings of pearls on the back, and long satin sleeves. BUT what I couldn't get over was that train! Something about it always stuck with me, so when the time came to choose a dress, I never even ended up trying on a different dress. My mom and I worked together to make the dress a little more modern while keeping the majority of the dress intact. I will always cherish those memories too!

2. First Look

We went back and forth on this tradition- in my mind I always wanted to wait to have Spencer see me as I was walking down the aisle for the first time, but with our wedding being in November we needed to do a first look if we wanted any pictures in natural light (it gets dark at like 4:30 here this time of year!). Looking back, I'm so glad we did a first look, because I was so nervous to see Spencer! Getting to spend some time just the two of us before the ceremony put me at ease and made the rest of the day so fun. It also allowed us to go directly to our reception instead of waiting to take pictures after the ceremony.

3. Tailgate Hour

If you don't know Spencer and I well, we LOVE college football! During our years at Baylor (me) and Oregon (Spencer), both teams had crazy football success and it was cool to be a part of it. We wanted a fall wedding, but unfortunately that meant we were committing the cardinal sin of football fans- getting married on a game day. Baylor played earlier in the day, and I was able to watch the game while I was getting ready, but the Oregon fans weren't as lucky- they were great sports! Since there were still games going on during our reception, we decided to call our cocktail hour, "Tailgate Hour" and had a few of the games playing on the projector and a couple other TVs dispersed throughout the reception. My dad also surprised Spencer and I by getting these super cool mannequins with the Oregon and Baylor uniforms for our photobooth! It was the perfect gift for us football lovers!

4. Little Personal Details

There were so many little, unique details to this day, but I'll just touch on a few!

The first picture is of our memory candles to represent my grandpa and close family friend who both passed away in the years before our wedding. We were able to have both of their spouses light the candles before our ceremony began.

The second picture is of the ring bearer signs my friend Madeline of Ellie Jean Paperie made as a wedding gift for me. The signs were a hit, and I loved having her handwriting as a part of our day.

These centerpieces were a labor of love for my mom- she brought a Pinterest vision to life! Each table number had a picture of Spencer and I at the age that corresponded with the table number. It took her weeks to find all of the pictures, but they were so fun to look through!

My dad picked our father daughter dance song, and to this day I can't listen to it without tearing up. We danced to "I'll be Your Man" by Zac Brown Band. The lyrics were extremely special to my dad  and me, and this moment was one of my favorites of the night.

Last but not least, we got to celebrate 3 birthdays the night of our reception! These three people are some of our closest friends, so we couldn't let them get away without a little embarrassment!

All in all, our wedding day had its' bumps for sure, but I look back on this day with amazing memories. Thanks for taking a small peek into our day!
