A couple of months ago, I had the privilege of speaking to our high school ministry as a part of their series on prayer. I really enjoyed speaking on this topic, and wanted to share my thoughts with you here as well. I have modified some of the message in order to make more sense as a blog post, but the jist of the lesson is here. I love how the student team is equipping students to make their faith their own and encouraging them to grow in their faith.

Our Love Story

It definitely wasn’t your typical boy meets girl they lived happily ever after story. Spencer and I met when we were 16, we were both serving at the junior high winter retreat. I thought he was cute, and felt like we had good conversation, but come to find out he had a girlfriend who he had actually turned down going to a dance with in order to serve at winter camp. After we got back, things got crazy and we didn’t reconnect until that summer on the bus to summer camp.

Reflecting: Lipstick, Extensions, and Inner Beauty

With the start of a new calendar year, and coming up on a year of blogging next week, I have been feeling very reflective. I went back to my earliest blog posts, and it’s crazy to see how much I’ve grown in writing in the last 12 months. However, I love that my very first blog post still rings so true, and reading it was such a good reminder of why I started this blog. Towards the end of 2018, I felt myself start to drift away from the mission statement I created for this blog- “sharing my story of navigating life and faith in order to inspire women to be real with themselves and others.” I’m planning on reflecting on this mission and how I plan to live this out in an upcoming post, but today I’ll leave you with my first blog post from January 14, 2018, and a sneak peek of some awesome pictures Karya Schanilec Photography took for my year recap next week!

new year, new word

new year, new word

This past Sunday at church, the pastor who was speaking interviewed an older member of the church, and asked her what her New Year traditions were. She shared that she spends time alone with God and asks for a word for her to focus on for the year, and keeps that word in the forefront of her mind for the next 12 months. I love this idea of choosing something to focus on for the year, and felt very convicted over the last month to focus on the word: consistency.
